What the Media Could Do If They Tried

  • Oh for the love of Pete! Can the media just stop talking about Anna Nicole Smith’s death for five minutes?!

I’m sorry for her passing and sympathize for the loved ones she’s left behind, but there is no justification for all the hoopla about her death. She was an attention-getting stripper who led a life of drugs and partying, but with all the hype she has received over the last couple of weeks you’d think she was responsible for improving our world.

In my opinion, it’s exactly this type of attention that’s causing our society’s downfall. Being famous without having anything to be famous for has become the norm, and the spotlight usually falls on the person who has done something rather infamous.

If the media would focus their attention on things that matter rather than try to twist things to serve their own view of the world, their own agenda, they might actually help us live up to a higher standard. But alas, it all comes down to media share, advertising dollars, out-doing your competitors at all costs.

And take the latest Britney Spears’ fiasco. You mean to tell me there’s nothing more important to talk about than her decision to shave herself bald and get tattooed?

But the media isn’t totally to blame. No, an equal portion of it goes to their audience. If people are willing to watch and listen to the drivel that media spoon-feeds them, then the cycle will continue.
