What Has Driven The Most Traffic To Your Blog?
There’s no shortage of places to advertise your blog. FuelMyBlog, MyBlogLog, The GoodBlogs, a gazillion blog directories, and more are all driven to providing bloggers with unheard of traffic while serving others with places to go.
One of the drawbacks I find with linking to so many of these places is the additional download time it places on your blog. Sure the widgets are cool and eye-catching, but after I add one of them to my sidebar I always look at the lower left of my browser (I use Firefox) to see the status of the page download). Mostly, it’s those little badges that seemingly take forever to download, and sometimes they don’t complete, leaving only the “alt” text for display.
Please leave a comment to tell me your favorite method of driving traffic to your blog. What doesn’t work?

MyBlogLog and BlogMad have worked quite well for me. What about you? I’d be interested to hear a short review of each of these networking-related widgets you got here on the sidebar!

Hi hthth,
I agree that MyBlogLog is a worthy addition to any blog. I just hope that since they’ve been bought by Yahoo that things don’t go downhill as is often the case when a big company buys a smaller one.
I’ve tried BlogMad a while back, but need to revisit that.
I like your idea about reviewing these services. I’ll be sure to add these to other comments I receive.
Thanks for visiting and please come back from time to time — I enjoy hearing from my visitors!

Well, you’ve just alerted me to two more traffic sites that I wasn’t aware of and I see a few different ones I hadn’t noticed before on your sidebar.
Anyway. Today, I had a very interesting day traffic-wise.
I posted a little blurb about 300. It wasn’t even really a review. It was, ya know, talking about the, um, film’s attributes. Yeah, that’s it.
And then, I do what I’ve started doing with most of my posts: I dugg it.
Within 5 minutes of digging the post, I had twenty visitors and as of this minute, that post has drawn in about 150 visitors since. Which, for my blog at this point, is good.
Obviously, I’m going to have to write more posts with the word “naked” in the title. :p

Hi Kelly,
Yes, the power of “naked” is amazing.
That is incredible though that you got that many hits and in such a short amount of time. Kudos!
I’ve been spending a lot of time this evening searching for directories to drop my links in. A tedious task, but then again my blog is new and needs all the help it can get.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you do again!

I hear you, about the download time… being one of those people with (literally) no option but dialup!… and also, there’s a limit to the amount of sidebar bling that a person can place without starting to look like a desperate aging drag queen…
Here’s a thought, Mark - while you’re building up your blog directory list, why not make a note of the ones that don’t require widget-placement as a condition of listing? That would constitute really useful “flagship content” for your readers, IMHO. Well, okay, it would be really useful for me, anyway!!

Very good point, domestika. So much to do, so little time. I’ll come up with something.
domestika | Mar 31, 2007 | Reply
Yeah, it’s remarkably easy for some of us (me!) to come up with “projects” for other people to do!

Oops, I see I double-commented yesterday: sorry about that, Mark! Blame the dialup time-out…
