What Are Your Favorite Firefox Add-ons?

June 26, 2008

I’m a Firefox fan. I rarely use Internet Explorer. The few times I do use it is when I’m looking for some clipart from Microsoft’s clipart gallery. But Firefox wins the hearts of many a blogger by virtue of the gazillion add-ons that are available that provide productivity, information, and entertainment.

I try to keep my list of add-ons lean because I don’t want to bog down performance, but here are a few that I just can’t live without. If you haven’t tried them, why not now?

All-in-One Sidebar
This offers me quick access to my plugins, history, bookmarks, themes and more. I love the way I can just click on the far left side of my monitor to expand it and get right to the things I need to.

Clippings
Love this one. I use it for almost every post I make when there’s a graphic involved. I just select the the source code I want and presto! — I’ve got my IMG tag surrounded by a DIV tag, so all I have to do is change the name of the graphic. Comes in handy for filling out blog descriptions or email signatures, too.

Diigo toolbar
I don’t save bookmarks to my computer anymore, except for the rare occasion I need to access things quickly. But whenever I’m at a site of interest, I just click a button and it automatically suggests the tags for it and I select and enter a comment if I want to. I can even send it to someone if I desire. It does SO much more than that though, a lot more!

Colorzilla
For bloggers, this is a must — even if you’re not a designer, you will inevitably come across the time you need to pick up a color off a web page to use in your own code.

MeasureIt
Comes in handy when I need to size something up on my blog.

Paste and Go 2
Don’t waste time clicking the “go” button on your browser’s address field. Just copy the URL you want into the address field, right-click and paste and go!

There are a few others, but these are crucial to my web behavior. What are your favorites?

    Nice collection of Firefox extensions. Clippings sounds very very useful to me. Going over to download it right now! Thanks for the heads up. :-)

    All-in-One Sidebar rocks! It might be my favorite extension. I also rely heavily on Colorzilla.

    My favorite add-on, hands down, would have to be that little weather bar I’ve got. It’s fantastic to be able to see the temperature at a glance. I love Firefox!

    My favourite add-ons are the Web Developer Toolbar (a must-have for web developers) and TwitterFox.

    Cool list Mark. I can’t say I know much about any of these, I am interested in that clippings thing you talked about, seems like it could be useful. I will have to check out some of the plugins on this list.

    @Dennis
    Oh, then you don’t know what you’re missing! Go download it now and good things will happen to you. :)
    @Kyle
    You know, you’d think for something that’s designed to stay out of your way that you wouldn’t use it so often, but I do.

    @Liz
    I tried a weather add-on a while back, but had to drop it for conflicts. Maybe things have gotten better and will keep me from having to type in weather.com all the time. :)
    @Colin
    Oh definitely Web Developer toolbar is awesome. It’s amazing what that thing can do. Definitely a must-have!

    @Nishadha
    I tried that one earlier this year, but removed it on account of it not working well. For some reason it didn’t shuffle through the items I had saved to the list. I instead chose LaterLoop and love it.

    @Mike
    Dude, you, an artist, don’t have Colorzilla? Methinks Griffball has distracted you for far too long, my friend. Go now and install it, and take in the colors of the rainbow. LOL

    @MorganLighter
    Hey, that is a good one, too! I love the way you can save the sites in a list for later retrieval. Pretty cool.

    @JK Swopes
    Glad to be of help! My job here is done. ;)

    I really like the Google Toolbar for Firefox and the Google Browser Sync that works with Firefox.

    As for pure plugins, I’ve used NoDoFollow, LiveWriterFox, RankChecker, and SearchStatus.

    @Louise
    I use SearchStatus all the time. Wonderful way to quickly get ranking info on a site.
