Viral Marketing: Videos Gone Wild
March 26, 2008
Viral marketing. Lots of bloggers try it and fail, while others don’t even know what it is, yet have somehow been able to reap the benefits of it, some might say by just dumb luck.
Just like when someone skips a stone across a pond, the goal of viral marketing is to cause ripples far and wide, sending waves of people to your site. And never has viral marketing been so palpable than with YouTube and its ilk.
An article by Ryan Shamus takes an indepth look at the characteristics of viral marketing with videos. The likes of YouTube has made it so that amateurs and professionals alike have a common platform to inform and entertain — and increase their web traffic.
Ryan breaks down viral marketing videos into their basic components enabling you to see what it takes to stir up interest in your blog. Humor is one such ingredient and has always been a great approach. Anyone remember the guy who did the Numa Numa song on YouTube? It was hilarious! I even saw it on a popular television news show on a major network.
Ryan’s article (which you can digg right here) continues with other tips on maximizing the effectiveness of your videos, highlights useful sites where you can upload and share your videos, and shows you how to add effects to your video.
We’re not talking rocket science guys. Maybe that was the case before the Internet, but today’s online services are designed to make it incredibly easy for novices and professionals alike to share media with the world. So the hardest thing you’ll probably have to face is finding the best prices on video cameras.
There’s so much more you can get from reading his article. I encourage you to visit it and bookmark it.

Welcome to MeAndMyDrum!
I agree with you that he should have started out with something a little more proper. But there’s no doubt viral videos can really help get one noticed.
@Michelle
