While reading Brown Baron’s post last night about DaFont, the site that offers you thousands of free fonts, I noticed that it offered a way to preview sample text in the fonts it provides. That feature is pretty handy in that it helps you decide which font is the best one for your needs before you download it.
But what about the fonts you already have installed on your computer? Sure, you could type the text in the program you’re in and select each font one by one, but that’s time-consuming. So here are two free font viewers that can help you with that: AMP Font Viewer and Font Thing.
What I like best about both of these tools is that you can preview a lot of fonts in the text of your choosing. But of the two, I consider AMP Font Viewer my favorite because I can simply view more fonts at a glance.
Each of these tools allow you to view active (installed) and inactive (uninstalled) fonts. And if you happen like one that’s not active, you can easily install it and be ready for action.

AMP Font Viewer has a better layout but Font Thing has a cooler name heh. You know, I was actually going to start looking for a font viewer but decided to drop by here first.
Glad I could save you the time.
Thanks for posting. I saved this in my Google Reader so I could go back and fetch it when my own computer is actually fixed. But when it is, I’m rushing to this post and getting AMP Font Viewer.
@Tay: glad to be of help!
I’m glad I got here first since I was planning to download tons of new fonts to my new computer
@Malin: Hehe…I think you’ll be pleased.
I’m going to have to give one of these a try. I’ve got more fonts installed then you can shake a stick at and I really need to figure out what the heck they all look like and get rid of a few…hundred.
@Mike: these will be a big time saver for the work you do.
Okay I just got AMP installed. I’m happy to report it didn’t explode when loading my ginormous list of fonts. This is going to be very handy. I’ve already spotted dozens I don’t need anymore
This will save me loads of time. Thanks You
@Genaral_TS: I’m glad to have found something useful for you. Thanks so much for stopping by and hope to see you return soon.
