Two Cookie-Controlling Firefox Add-ons

  • Two Cookie-Controlling Firefox Add-onsEver have the need to login to the same site but under different logins? You could handle it by opening up Firefox and Internet Explorer, sure, but that’s a pain, right?

    Well, these two add-ons for Firefox can help you stay within Firefox AND be logged in as more than one user.

    “Now why would I want to do that?”

    I just started using this at my work where I have to play more than one role in the same web-based application. It keeps me from having to login as one user, logout, then log back in as another user, or have both browsers running at the same time. This could also be useful to login to more than one Gmail account, for example.

    CookieSwap
    This puts a small link in your lower right corner of your browser. After you login, right-click on that link and select from one of three profiles to save the cookie in. It’s that simple.

    Now log out and log in as another profile. Do the same thing with CookieSwap to save it, but as another profile. Now you can stay in the same tab and switch back and forth between users.

    When you close your browser, your cookies are saved for these profiles the next time you open up Firefox.

    CookiePie
    This little diddy allows you to save your cookies for logins in each tab you have open. Whereas CookieSwap above only allowed for three profiles and functionality in one tab, CookiePie expands that functionality by enabling you to keep several tabs open at once, each with a different login assigned to it.

    When you’re logged in, you simply right-click on the tab and toggle CookieSwap on. When you close your browser, you lose your cookies.

    That is a GREAT idea. I’m constantly needing to switch logins, and it’d be nice not to have to open Opera every time I want to do it. Awesome! I’ll for sure install one of these once I’m back on my own computer, which keeps overheating…any plugins to fix that? lol.

  5. Thanks for sharing, Mark! On a daily basis I have to keep FF and IE opened at the same time for this purpose, but no longer! :)

    Mike, I was thinking the same exact thing! I totally need something like this for entrecard. Plus, just like you said, Mark, I deal with a number of apps that I have to work different ends of with different accounts and I’m always logging in and out. Can’t wait to try these! Thanks.

    Excellent find Mark !

    I just ran both of them through their paces and it looks like I will be using the CookieSwap for now. I could not get CookiePie to be stable enough.

    I only need about 10 more profiles with CookieSwap, lol…

    Thanks Mark, this was the Tech Key of the day for me !!!

  13. Is there any addons that can save image, css, or js, for some period of time, and prevent that image, css, or js to be loaded again and again from the server?

    @George
    That’s a very good question, but I just don’t know. Perhaps you could checkout their addons page or maybe contact one of the authors of these two addons to see if they’d be interested in creating something like that.

    @David
    I’m sorry for the late reply. I just noticed that my blog is not notifying me again when comments are made. Looks like I’ll be upgrading very soon and hope that it’s taken care of.

    Glad to know you found at least one of them useful. I found out something about CookiePie though that may help you. You first login, THEN enable CookiePie. Just thought I’d pass that along.

  16. I find your “cookies” very useful because I have to login with 2 or 3 usernames on the same site almost every day and until now it was a really nightmare to login and logout for many times and to use Internet Explorer and Mozilla in the same time.

    Cookie helps browsers do many comfortable things and uncomfortable things as well :twisted:

    I’ve been using CookiePie to open multiple Gmail, but now I know another one: Cookie Swap.

    Thank you for sharing.
