Tools To Keep Track of Presidential Nominees
-
We’re well into the presidential campaign this year. There’s going to be a lot of puffery, mud-slinging, back-stabbing, scandals, he-said/she-said, I-know-you-are-but-what-am-I dialog for sure.As we endure this very long, but very important process of selecting America’s next leader, may I suggest a few things things to help you cut through the hype and even help you monitor what’s being said so you can make a well-informed decision come the big day:
Save time by bringing information to you instead of you going to it. Places like Pageflakes or Netvibes are wonderful aggregators.
Once you locate your favorite resources for news, they’re sure to have an RSS feed you can plug into one of these babies. So set it up and wait for the feeds to start rolling in.
What are you going to do with all that information? Well, give diigo (pronounced “dee-go”) a try, an online bookmarking community. Not only can you bookmark to your heart’s content, but you can also tag what you find, making it easier to find stuff later. Another strength it has is the ability to highlight content and make notes right on the web page your viewing no matter what site. So next time you visit that site, your content will stand out along with your notes. Heck, you can even start your own group and have others review your discoveries.
The other solution I have stores the information on your computer. It’s called Evernote and it’s free. It, too, stores your information using tags. You can easily clip content right from the web page and make notes to yourself. Can’t remember when you saw that last bit of great information? No worries, it has a great timeline feature to scroll around or even search for those nuggets.
And don’t forget Google Alerts. Simply enter in your search phrase and it will crawl the web for matches and email them to you for later reading.[tags]community,news,aggregator,rss,feed,politics,presidential,campaign,bookmarking,software[/tags]

I have been using Google Alerts on my Pageflakes Start Page for a long time now. It’s a perfect combination.

Oh yes, great idea Lori. I had forgotten about that one.
For those of you who are new to Pageflakes, it’s a free service where you can gather many different feeds from online sources. But there’s more. It also has tons of other useful (and not so useful) “flakes” that you can add to your page.
One such flake gives me the ability to view my movie queue for Netflix. Another, the weather in my area. Others offer online storage access, and as Lori suggested above, email access, too.
