ThinkFree Viewer For WordPress

by Mark Sierra on April 6, 2007

Okay, this is pretty nifty.

ThinkFree is a free, web-based alternative to Microsoft Office. So you can create documents compatible with Microsoft’s Powerpoint, Word, Excel. And now, thanks to the collaboration between ThinkFree and WordPress, bloggers like me can embed these type of documents in their blog via a plugin — for free!

With this plugin you can make it easy for your visitors to view your documents without them needing to own the application.

Another great thing about ThinkFree is that it also offers online storage and collaboration capabilities free on its site. This can really come in handy when you need to send someone a document, but they don’t have access to Powerpoint, Excel or Word. Or perhaps you need to view a document sent to you, but are not at a computer with the appropriate application. Just have them upload it to ThinkFree, login and view it there.

You can check out a demo here.

Perfect! This is *exactly* what I need –
People do insist on sending me Excel documents when a perfectly simple tab-delineated text file would do… and don’t get me started on all the “amusing” PowerPoint attachments by email…
Thanks for the tip, Mark!

It does look amazingly like MS. I am testing things like this for reviews. Have yo tried ZOHO?

I’m familiar with ZOHO, but I haven’t used this side of their offering. They do have a wide range of products.

A few weeks ago I used their to-do list product for work. After trying a couple of others since then I may return to it, but still have a few more things to test before ultimately deciding on one.
