Technorati Responds To Security Breach
-
A few days ago I posted How I Accessed Your Technorati Account where I described how I was able to gain access to other people’s Technorati accounts. I’m not a hacker, but I am a clicker and that’s all I needed to do — either by clicking the “more” link on my WP dashboard or going to Technorati itself.
In the days leading up to that post, I was disappointed to learn no one at Technorati had responded to my alert on their forum. Well, today I received an email from them with a very sincere apology for not responding sooner. Here’s the message:
Hello Mark,
Please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Thank you SO much for alerting us to this critical issue. We are working to resolve it ASAP and was hoping you could help us in our research to track down the cause. Could you describe the sequence of events when you see the issue occur? For example What page you are loading when this occurs, if you load the page via a bookmark or by typing in the address, as well as what browser you are using at the time and how often this happens. Thank you so much again! We greatly apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your help. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or need anything. Thank you for using Technorati!
My faith in them has improved since they sent this. Hopefully, they’ll resolve the issue and I’ll report when they do.

Took long enough, but better late than never I suppose

Let’s hope the solution comes quicker than it took for their response.

As a gesture of goodwill, maybe they could put you in the top 100.
What do you mean I’m greedy?

Hey, I like the way you think! Maybe I can make TBoy jealous.

TBoy…ha ha ha

Uhmm.. you’re wrong Brown.. I’m thinking it would be top 3
July 23, 2007 at 12:56 am
Top 3? Hehehe sounds good to me! Hey Mark, if they give you a spot in the top 3 can I take your spot in the top 100?
July 23, 2007 at 7:35 am
Hehe…it’ll be all your’s!

Man, that’s one major issue! One would think a much faster response would have resulted. At least they’re tackling it now.
And I agree with Brown Baron.
I think they at least owe you something. This was a something that could’ve lead to a major privacy issue…and with privacy laws these days…a major lawsuit.

Hehe…that would be pretty cool.

That’s not good….I had no idea someone could hack into your Technorati account. That’s just plain scary, especially for a Technorati addict like me.
July 21, 2007 at 12:18 pm
The other unfortunate thing about this is that it’s not really much of a hack. I just clicked on the links available to everyone else.

You’ve been tagged.

Congrats on getting a response! I guess security breaches are more important than my request
(as they probably should be).
I’ve been waiting for over a week now to find out why Technorati isn’t updating my site’s posts anymore. Now when I link to someone, they don’t know it because Technorati isn’t indexing me correctly.

Hey buddy, don’t know what’s up with the post things on Technorati. I rarely go there anymore and prefer to get my feeds via Google Reader.
