Stupid Is As Stupid Does

You may have heard in the news about an illegal immigrant who was hiding in a church in Chicago to avoid being deported. Oh! Did I type that out loud? I meant to say she was claiming sanctuary in a church in Chicago. Gosh, I almost made it sound like she actually was being wrongfully accused and hiding from the bad guys.

Oh wait, she IS the “bad guy”.

Her name? Elvira Arellano. What she does for a living? Comes to the U.S. illegally and claims that she has a right to stay here and demand she not be treated like a criminal. Hmm, I wonder if that job comes with a good dental plan. Probably, because it’s paid for by American citizens I’m sure.

Anyhoo, she was finally deported back to Mexico choosing to leave her 8-year-old son behind. Immigration activists (notice they don’t call themselves ILLEGAL immigration activists) are crying foul saying that they’re saddened and yet angry at the same time. “How dare they arrest this woman?” asks a confused man.

How dare they? Excuse me (ahem), but she committed a crime coming here 10 years ago. Hellooooo. :???: And doesn’t her leaving her son here, who is a U.S. citizen, say anything about her? Of course it does; it says she knows he’d have a better life here than Mexico. If she truly felt wronged, then she would have taken her son with her. Nope, this is about the squeaky wheel think it deserves ALL the grease.

Pardon my sarcasm, but to get serious about this, where did our society lose its sense of justice? Not the kind that defends criminals, but the kind that actually says what’s right and wrong.

Is it that we have it so good that we’ve run out of things to complain about? Do we have to make stuff up and fool ourselves into thinking we’re being productive when in reality we’re really just slowing destroying our culture, our sense of right and wrong?

And what is Elvira going to do next? Why she’s going to lobby Mexican government organizations and officials, undoubtedly to prepare a major offensive against the big bad U.S. government for making a better life here than elsewhere. Hey, I’m not saying we have it perfect here, by any means, but is it too much to ask to have this type of person to look at the numbers? I don’t see a long line going out of the country.

Stupidity is a disease and it must be stopped in our lifetime.

  1. Truer words were never spoken.
Your article echoes the same sentiments that most clear thinking Americans have espoused for years. The part that gets me is, what part of illegal do people not understand? Illegal means - NOT LEGAL!
Advocates and politicians say “Illegals will work in jobs that Americans won’t do”, horsecrap!
California, where we reside, spends $2.2 billion on the education of illegals per year and these are 2005 statistics.
Taxpayers are forced to provide emergency health care for illegals and their children who do not have insurance. Emergency health care for illegals along the southwestern border is costing area hospitals $200 million and year, with another $100 million in extended care costs. Hospitals must provide emergency treatment to all who walk through the door, regardless of the citizenship status or ability to pay - in 2001, America’s hospitals provided nearly $21 billion in uncompensated health care services. How many Citizens of this country don’t have health care because they can’t afford it?
Crime? Statistics estimate that, in California, 15% of prison inmates are undocumented aliens, costing the state more than $500 million - again these are stats from 2001. I’ve read that the percentage is closer to 30%, but do not have the documentation to back that up.
Fraudulent Social Security cards, driver’s licenses and birth certificates are being bought by the thousands of illegal immigrants each year. These false documents are used by individuals to get millions of dollars worth of welfare, public housing and Social Security benefits.
Finally - should any one say “We’ll they (the illegals) are paying taxes, which helps the economy” - Are you out of your flipping mind? Most illegals work for cash, or have low-paying jobs and don’t pay enough in taxes, if they pay at all, to reimburse the $5,000-plus annually it takes to educate each of their children and children and children.
We give the world to the illegals and penalize our own legal citizens. Isn’t that just nuts?
Just so that you know - I am not xenophobic - I fault our government for this debacle. I welcome anyone, who comes from a foreign country, and follows the rules to become a LEGAL CITIZEN, all the best.
    Here’s a link - http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html - read this and weep.

  2. I knew somebody like you was out there! ;) Things are so out of balance these days. Punishing the innocent while protecting the criminals. Crying foul for trivial offenses, and ignoring the major ones. I’m glad you dropped by to speak your mind. Thanks for doing so and I hope you return. :)
