Steps To Success With Career Ramblings

CareerRamblingsI posted an article here a couple of months ago about successful job hunting. In it I provided steps you can take to help improve your chances of finding your next best job. I’d like to add CareerRamblings.com to that list.

At the helm of this informative blog are John Anthony and Jane May. Their collective experience is prominently displayed throughout the variety of tips and news topics meant to keep you abreast of things happening in the job market. Not to be confused with a site where you’d find job listings; rather, it’s a resource that will prepare you in your job search and bring meaning to your career development.

For example, take Learn To Get A Job By Marketing Yourself. This offers a checklist of things we should be doing without even thinking about it, yet oftentimes overlook them. Polish up your cover letter and resume, speak professionally, and don’t forget about the all-important handshake. Any of these ring a bell? On a personal level, the handshake is one of the big things I look for in anyone I meet. If I reach out to shake a “fish”, then I’ve immediately pegged you as someone who needs to be spending time on a boat instead of spending time with me.

It’s not just about getting a job, but keeping it, too. So another post of their’s that resonates with me is Tips For A Successful First Year On The Job. This one tells us the importance of keeping your brain in learning mode, staying healthy, and taking responsibility. Words to live by in and out of the office.

Something else I noticed about their community is that practically every post has someone commenting on it. That tells me readers are interested in the things John and Jane have to say. I don’t know how it sizes up to the rest of their posts, but at least one — 5 Ways To Capture Attention Like A CEO — has 42 comments as of this writing.

CareerRamblings has an ongoing backlink exchange where you write a review of their site in exchange for a link back to yours. Take a moment to check out the details as well as soak up their advice on job-related issues.
