Reviewing Iron Man, The Movie

  • Reviewing Iron Man, The MovieHmm, I’ve been blogging for a few years now, and I don’t recall doing a review on a movie yet. But even if I have, I’m sure it has been a while.

    I just saw Iron Man yesterday and have to tell you, it was great! There aren’t too many movies I say that about, but this one was definitely worth it, especially one that was based on a comic book super hero.

    At first, I had misgivings about Robert Downey, Jr. playing the leader role, Tony Stark. But I must say, he really did a good job. In case you don’t know the background of Tony Stark, you may be interested to know that he and Robert shared some of the same qualities, which makes Robert rather qualified to don the iron suit (okay, it’s really some sort of titanium or whatever). Robert and Tony had their experiences of battling booze and care-free living. But I think this movie has put Robert back on the map as he’s definitely doing the role a great service.

    The special effects were quite amazing. But the thing I liked most about the storyline is that the writers didn’t just throw Robert (Tony) into the suit and make him a superhero overnight. No, they took their time to build a credible path from the origin of Iron Man to what he came to be known as in the movie.

    Even if you aren’t a comic book fan, you’d definitely get a kick out of seeing this movie. Good acting, intense fight scenes (nothing gruesome), humor, and as mentioned earlier, great effects.

    Definitely worth the price of admission.

    Gotta bring my son to catch this super hero movie.

    I’m sure the intense actions will be able to keep him on the edge of his seat.

    He’ll most likely enjoy it. There are a few words that I wish they didn’t include in the movie, and there is one scene that lasts about 6 seconds that has Tony and another woman in bed, but it’s not too difficult to look the other way in time. :)

    Iron Man was practically flawless as a super hero flick; its makers drop some pretty obvious sequel hints too… i’m thinking the next one should be equally great

    I have to admit, I was drawing a blank with the “power extreme” thing, but I Googled it and see that it’s the Centurions. I recall that show, barely.

    Welcome to MeAndMyDrum! :) Oh yes, I do sense a sequel coming. It may be a couple of years, but most certainly they should be coming out with one.

    Everybody loves it, but I still didn’t have a chance to see it. :( Hope I will get to this weekend. The sequel is set for summer 2010 btw.

    My cousin was raving about the movie to me the other night. I guess I’m going to have to check it out eventually :)

    Hi Mark! Yeah, I’m not a fan of Robert Downey Jr. at all, but for a movie like this, I’m sure I could bear it. I have a friend who works for Sony and should receive a bootleg DVD tomorrow…hahaha! Just kidding. I already spent my $600.00 tax relief check on a single shot of rare scotch in a high class casino. I tipped the bartender 50 cents:)

    Methinks you’ll like this movie. I expect to see a fan movie from you in the next couple of weeks. :)

    @Bobby
    I was the same way with Robert. As I saw the trailers and interviews I thought he might actually deliver, and he did.

    $600 for a shot of scotch? Wow!

    I thought this film was great, I was looking forward to it, but also wasn’t getting my hopes up too much as I didn’t know what direction they would take it – they’ve done a great job and am looking forward to the sequel!

    Welcome to MeAndMyDrum! I also think they had a good mixture of humor and believability. And yes, the costumes were great!

    @Zath
    Hey, good to see you here, Zath! I’ll try not to think about the sequel being two years ago. It’s like what I had to do with Heroes being off the air for so long. Fall can’t get here soon enough! :)

    Robert Downey, Jr. was a great Tony Stark. I really enjoyed this as well, and I’m looking forward to the sequel.

    Also, everyone who hasn’t seen this — remember to stick around until the end of the credits for a little extra.

    [[ NOTE Spoiler-ish -- if you haven't seen it you might want the surprise. ]]

    Tony Stark returns home at the end of the film to find Samuel L. Jackson standing in his living room. He says something to the effect of ” ‘I am Iron Man?’ Do you think you’re the only superhero out there? You’ve walked into a whole new world.” Tony says something like “Who the hell are you?”, to which he responds, “My name is Nick Fury, and I’m here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative.”

    Iron Man 2 is scheduled for 2010. The First Avenger: Captain America is due in May 2011 with The Avengers movie two months later. Also, Robert Downey Jr. will reportedly make a cameo as Tony Stark in The Incredible Hulk this summer.

    Glad to hear that! I’m also looking forward to the Speed Racer movie. Gotta make time for that in the next week or so.
