Prepare For The Rain
-
For those of you who have been struggling to make money online, feeling like your blog couldn’t attract attention if it had a flare attached to it, then this post if for you.I just finished watching a very inspiring movie called Facing the Giants. It came out a couple of years ago. Briefly, it’s about a high school football team that’s in a 6-year losing streak. The coach is having family issues, financial issues, and some parents want to replace him. It can be a bit cheesy at times. There are no big name actors in it, but it’s BIG on message.
Inspiration 1: You keep going
There was one scene where the coach was trying to turn this one boy’s attitude around during practice. The boy had to do a death crawl, which is when you walk like a bear with someone else on your back. This isn’t like riding a horse, no, this is when they are lying on their back on top of your’s with their feet in the air, so all their weight is on you.
The boy agreed to do this for 30 yards. But the coach blindfolded him so he couldn’t decide to give up when he thought he had gone far enough. The scene grew intense. The boy was yelling, “I can’t, I’m too tired. How much farther?” The coach was yelling back at him, “You give me your best! I know you’re tired, but you negotiate with your body to give me your all!”
The rest of the team was awestruck because at the end of the scene, the boy realized he had gone the entire length of the field!
Inspiration 2: Prepare for the rain
Another scene was between the coach and this other man. This other man explained to the coach that he heard a story about two farmers who were both in desperate need of rain. Both of them prayed for rain, but only one of them prepared their fields for it.
Who got the rain? The farmer who prepared for it.
How does this relate to blogging?
We can get overwhelmed with the effort required to make a successful blog. “Am I using a good template?” “Am I choosing the right keywords?” “Will people visit and click on my ads?” “My gosh, how many posts do I have to write before someone comments?” It takes a lot to get noticed.
Just like the farmer who prepared for rain, we, too, must prepare our blogs for the time when visitors come by to pay us a visit. Just like the boy who thought he could only do 30 yards, but ended up traversing the entire football field because his coach gave him no reason to think otherwise, we, too, must push ourselves and be a supporter to others to go just a little farther.
Before we know it, we’ll stop and look back and be surprised just how far we’ve come, which makes looking forward a little bit easier.
Naturally, this can and should be applied to our offline lives as well. So go out and make it a great week!

I agree whole heartedly….. there will be rain of some sort at some point. I immediately thought you meant rain as in bad days! But just shows, maybe, my mindset right now….. but as you say gotta keep going and the good rain will come.
If you take rain to be good or bad the same thing applies and you know they say “when it rains, it pours” so be prepared for this!

Great tips. I’m in the middle of launching a blog right now, and I have a limited amount of time to hook in my readers for good…it’s very stressful, but I’m trying to convince myself that I can do it.

Thanks for the pep talk. I’ve been pretty down the last few days over my blog. I was just hitting my groove last week when I “fixed” my robots.txt file and unintentionally bloack the googlebot from my rss feeds. I went from getting all my blog posts almost immediately indexed to nada. I’ve fixed the robots file but still waiting for the indexing to get back to normal.
Anyway, guess I need to keep plodding away!

I love that movie! And I love this post!
At times, it can get tedious, it may seem like you are spinning your wheels, but as long as you stick with it, and continue to grow, you will be ready for the rain. The rain may come in different timeframes for different people, sorta like two farmers in different states!
But, if you make sure you are ready, and you put forth the proper prep work, when it comes, you’ll reap the harvest!
Thanks for this Mark….I needed it!

Thanks for taking the time to say so. Staying motivated is one of the hardest things we face as bloggers. Already, I’ve seen some year-old blogs fall to the wayside.
