New Job, New Challenges

I was tweeting on Twitter with Ben from frogstr this evening which motivated me to make a post…a long overdue post.

Things have been pretty quiet around here as I’m sure you’ve noticed. Finding a regular schedule to post has been a bit challenging lately. You see, I started a new job two weeks ago. I’m a project manager during the day, so there’s a lot I have to keep my eye on to ensure a project is going forward as expected and know how to deal with surprises.

Maybe you can relate to what’s involved with beginning a new job: it’s stressful, you want to fit in, and prove your worth. Questions haunt me, “What do I do next?”, “How will I learn all this new stuff?”, “Did I miss anything?”

So needless to say, it has been a mental roller coaster for me these past two weeks. When I get home I’m exhausted. I sit down in front of my computer with the intent of writing, but wind up reading more than I plan to and then it’s time for bed.

But even though things are a bit crazy, I’m still determined to get things under control. I know they will. I’m especially motivated to do so in order to enjoy the upcoming holidays, which I often speed right through.

So thanks for hanging in there with me. I’ll be posting more — promise!

By the way, don’t forget that the deadline for my contest is coming up next week. — next Tuesday, Nov. 18. Stay tuned for more ways to earn points and increase your chances of winning.

  1. Where do you work? Should I already know that? lol

    I guess we can let it go this time man, but if it happens again, you might have to quit your job!

    Cheers!

  4. Hey thanks for the mention hehe ;)

    I agree with Jay, we will let it go this time! Seriously, I understand how it can be. Starting a new position is always a stressful thing as you have so much to learn in a short period of time and you also want to get things done correctly.

    Good luck buddy, but please give us something to eat once in a while! hehe

    I think that beginning a new job is a big challenge but as well a great opportunity too, because you have the chance to make a new fresh start. I recently wrote a post about this topic. Would love to hear your opinion about.

    I wish you to deliver great project in time and to satisfy your customers.

  6. It’s tough starting a new job, especially trying to fit in. You don’t know what they think of you. But everything will work out ok. They hired you because they put their trust in you. Cheer up and give these guys some food to digest.. Let us know how your work is going.

  7. @SuiteJ
    Thanks for letting me off the hook, buddy. I don’t think I can take another hit to my knees with a drumstick. :P
    @Bruno
    Thanks! Making time for things is always a challenge for me. It’s the laziness gene I guess.

    @George
    Thanks for the well wishes. Actually, I am getting to bed earlier. I used stay up till 1 or 2 on some weeknights. But that was back at my old job, when I knew how things worked.

    @Ben
    You’re welcome, buddy! I’ll cooking up some food for everyone. :)
    @Big Blogger
    It is indeed a fresh start. I think my old job just had too much “baggage” that made it hard to stay on top of things. So this new opportunity, while challenging, does offer a fresh start. And thanks for the kind words. ;)

  8. @Jamie
    And thank you for such kind words! It all happened so fast, really. Within about a week of applying I got an offer, so I guess they must have seen something about my experience they liked — or maybe they were just desperate. :D

  9. No worries my man, you will be back to 1-2am before you know it, then you can come back to blogging with gusto! LOL

    1-2 am? I don’t know, I think I’m getting too old for that, but maybe if I train for it… :)

  11. Starting a new job is very tough! It always takes me quite a bit of time before I feel that I am truly a integral part of the team and do not worry about my contribution.

  12. Congratulations on the new job! I hope you are able to find some time to keep blogging though :grin:

    @Tracy
    I know what you mean. I’ve felt that way after every job I’ve taken. I think that’s just the nature of it. The trick is to just keep looking ahead and making it work for you and the company.

  16. Congrats on the new job Mark, hope all goes well and you can find the right balance for you - enjoy the new challenge! :)
