Look Ahead With TabScope – A Firefox Add-on

  • Does this happen to you? You find a great article with several links in it. You’re still reading the article, but you for sure don’t want to miss out on those links. So you open each of them up in a new window in Firefox. Soon you have several tabs open and while you can Ctrl-tab through them, you may find it quicker to use an add-on I recently discovered.

With something called TabScope you can roll your mouse over the tabs in your Firefox browser and it will give you a thumbnail of the site. I was impressed with the speed at which it worked; didn’t experience any lag time.

Thumbnail too small? No problem, just click on the enlarge icon and get a boost. Still not enough, then you can configure the add-on with several choices in size.

Nice idea, but I generally find I want to visit more links in the post I’ve opened in the next tab. The downside to this is then I open five windows from that and then a further five windows and before I know it Firefox is using 200MB of memory and dragging like nothing on earth!

I used to have this but then I found myself clicking on more links  . Now I’m back to dozens of open tabs with Firefox eating up 3-400 megs of memory

Looks pretty interesting! I’ll have to give this one a try. If I ever have less than 15 tabs open at a time, then it’s a very slow day for me. :P

If Aaron’s a power browser, then that must make you a super-duper mega browser! :)

Yep, you bet! Anything less and my attention would quickly wander elsewhere. ;)

Btw, I wanted to make sure to wish you and your family a very wonderful and deliciously awesome Thanksgiving holiday! :)

    Shine on,

Arrrghh… I’ve just cleared down the 1,000s of unread posts I have in Google Reader, starred more items than I care to think about, and got 72 open firefox tabs!!

It’ll be months before I get time to read them, by then the amount of starred items will triple…

    You’re welcome, buddy! ;)

  14. Thanks for sharing, it looks quite helpful. However I do believe I will always have an endless amount of links I want to look at and this only helps waste my time some more. That’s my problem, though.
