True, things like AdWords can help you get extra exposure. I’ve never tried it myself because, like you said, the spending part kind of intimidates me.

Simple but good advice. One strange thing is when you use Adwords or other Pay Per Click advertising it takes some of the pressure off of SEO. Of course, then there is anxiety over what you are spending! I think a good balance helps you keep your site looking "normal" and visitor-friendly instead of overly-SEO'd. Some good tips there Mark, thanks for publishing them here on your blog, I know I sometimes get caught up with SEO and it ends up doing my head in – for example, I’ve had a bunch of my best performing posts disappear from Google ranking – I’ve not changed anything to cause it I don’t think – so will sit and keep working on new content and hopefully those other rankings will come back for the older content.
