Fresh Paint

by Mark Sierra on September 2, 2007

I switched hosts today and spent a good portion of it tweaking things here and there. I’m still not satisfied 100 percent, even so, I didn’t want to keep the “maintenance mode” sign up any longer.

For some reason I can’t get my categories to work and I’m still working on my header image.

Feel free to notify me of anything that’s broken or let me know your comments overall. :)

I like the new look. As to the categories not working, maybe the link structure changed?

Brown Baron (192 comments.) September 2, 2007 at 6:59 am

Categories are working now. You’re almost there buddy

Looks great so far! ;)

I love the new header graphic but by the sounds of it you won’t be keeping it long?

Cheers!

Hi Mark, I don’t see that search box your 404 is mentioning. You afraid some paint dripping out of it? :)

Mark September 2, 2007 at 8:53 am

@Jos: Thanks! It’s sort of a mixed set of emotions changing themes. On the one hand, it’s exciting to have something fresh, but it’s the tweaks that get me.

@Baron: Thanks buddy, but I haven’t worked on the categories since your last comment. And I’m not sure how the link structure would have changed. It’s quite possible I didn’t carry over something correctly. Right now, when you click on a category, it takes you to a page explaining it’s not found but within my theme. Aaarggh!

@Snoskred: Much appreciated! Yeah, about the header, I’m thinking of a new logo and colorizing the background. I spent so much time on that last night I just said, “Forget it for now and come back to it.” :)

@Jos: hehe…thanks. I forgot that I had removed the search widget.

New host or new theme? I think the theme looks nice

Mike (143 comments.) September 2, 2007 at 11:29 am

Look good, buddy! Very clean. I like :)

Which host did ya end up switching to? I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers switching hosts lately. There must be something in the air..hehe.

Mark September 2, 2007 at 1:27 pm

@Kyle: new host AND new theme. Thanks!

@Mike: I went with Host Monster. I considered the one you posted about earlier, Host Gator, but I didn’t like that they restricted you to one domain for their cheapest account.

It looks great so far! :D

Mike (143 comments.) September 2, 2007 at 2:11 pm

I’ve heard pretty decent feedback about Host Monster as well, so I hope it goes well for ya :)

I’m paying 10 bucks a month on Host Gator and have the unlimited domains. That does kinda stink that you can’t have that with the cheapest :)

Mark September 2, 2007 at 3:40 pm

@Malin: that’s very kind of you!

@Mike: Yeah, the way the hosts feature things ends up being a wash here and there. Cheap price, but less of “whatever”. My main goal for moving was because my old host was a little slow and sometimes had my blogs down. So far HM has given me great support with their live chat.

I think it looks pretty snazzy so far! You’re very smart to have your blog privately hosted.

Mark September 2, 2007 at 7:58 pm

@Christy, Why thank you ma’am.

Hey there, I like the clean new look too. I’m on blogger and keep meaning to update my look.

If I start any new blogs I’m definitely going to choose wordpress as it looks much nicer for most blogs.

I guess it has better functionality too.

Hey there, Forest. Thanks for the compliments. I’ve never used anything other than WP, but it’s definitely something that offers a lot of flexibility and functionality.
