Extraordinary Boost In Viewers On MyBlogLog
I try to check my stats regularly, but I’ve never seen anything like this before.
This evening I noticed that my profile on MyBlogLog indicated a whopping 4,600+ readers and 6,700+ page views on MAMD as of this writing.

According to my reports, a lot of people visited a post I made about Bigstring, a service providing the ability to create self-destructive emails.

I’ve written about things like this before, which is why I’m a little surprised why something like this got so much attention. Funny thing is, out of all those new readers who drove by, I haven’t seen my RSS subscriptions change one bit. Perhaps that’s indicative of stumble viewers?
Anybody have something like this happen to them that they’d like to share? If so, did it change your strategy at all?

Absolutely - I wrote a post about making 5 million dollars online which got stumbled, and in just one day 9722+ people viewed the article, the next day 6730 viewed it. I did notice a jump in my subscription stats as well.
People say various things about stumbleupon traffic, but I think there are no hard and fast rules re what people who use it will do when they get to your site.. I also think it is possible that some of the stumblers are not using RSS readers, they may have bookmarked you to come back again. Especially if you did not get stumbled as a “blog” but someone put it in a different category.
Yes, there are still people out there who read blogs without using a reader.. unbelievable as it may be to those of us who could not live without them..
In case you didn’t see the article, you may want to check it out..

Wow, some nice numbers indeed.
Actually, I have an update: I did get a jump in RSS subscriptions…finally broke 100! Woo-hoo! And the viewers are increasing. I’ll have to pay more attention to the way I categorize posts for StumbleUpon.
People not using an RSS reader? You’re pulling my leg, aren’t you?

Yeah, it’s inspiring for sure.

Though my numbers were not as big as yours, I noticed that my Ethnography of the Blogosphere got a lot of traffic from being stumbled. It is by far my most viewed post, which is exciting because it is my favourite post too.

It’s a good thing when things match up that way.

Sounds like stumble traffic. MyBlogLog members may subscribe to your fee on MBL, but not your site RSS.
Do you have an RSS call to action on the page where you got the huge hit count?

Yep, Stumble traffic for sure. And yes, I use the “What would Seth Godin Do” plugin to provide the box at the top inviting people to subscribe. Looks like the Feedburner stats run a day later, so today showed up a few new subscriptions.

Gotta love that stumble traffic, buddy. It makes you feel pretty darn good for a day or two..hehe. I’ve seen some unreal numbers on days when someone randomly stumbles me. I really enjoy it while it lasts
Mark | Aug 5, 2007 | Reply
Boy, you’ve got that right! The numbers are still climbing. Now I’m off to find another great thing worth stumbling.

I always wonder with StumbleUpon. Lot of times I failed about it behavior study. Most of the times I get Stumble traffic for old posts. Also in your case, you have got a massive traffic even there was lot of thumbs down reviews. I need to study about StumbleUpone behavior
Did anyone notice getting stumble traffic for old posts?
BTW, you always do a good work and I see your Feed count climbing up and up
good luck buddy.!

LOL Thanks, Ian. I don’t know about being everywhere, but it is on my list of places to visit.

I caught only a few thumbs-down reviews, but they made some good points.
Thanks for the kind words!

I’m still getting SU traffic from old posts. I think that some posts that got stumbled have a good chance of getting stumbled again.

Good for you, Mark! You put a lot of work into your blogging and deserve the attention.
I wonder, have you noticed a proportionate change in revenue? I know Bloggrrl reported almost no boost at all when she got her spike. Of course, her traffic came from Digg. I don’t know if that’s a different crowd or not.
Just wondering. Congrats!

Thanks! Not a heck of a lot of change going on though. I got page impressions out of it.
I’m not much of a numbers guy, but I gotta say that’s not too high.
I don’t have info to back this up, but with the kind of traffic I received, I’m guessing that stumblers are much for clicking on ads during their travels.

That’s about what I expected you to say
Maybe some of them will come back. Mark, you may want to delete the last comment. It’s against the terms of service to give out specific click and page view numbers. Don’t want you getting in trouble with the G men

Hi Malin, indeed, it’s a good thing when being stumbled upon.
Thanks for stopping by!
