I wrote a similar response to a Blog 3 project post against using the Comment Relish plugin..

I think it has its uses based on the readership and not to be totally ignored.

A little thought on the Comment Relish plugin from an active commenter. At first, it was nice to get an email from a blog acknowledging my comment. But, after I learnt about the plugin, I knew I was getting automated message and it just didn’t do it anymore.

If your blog readership is primarily other bloggers, they might end up feeling the same way once it becomes common knowledge like an email we receive after a tech support request. No human touch.

But, if your blog readership is primaily non-bloggers or receive a lot of search engine traffic, it is definitely a great add-on. But, nothing beats a personal comment to the commenter. Cheers.

I like this idea of comment relish… Great tip! I will have to think up some fabulous email though – maybe a picture of my bear covered with relish as well… or maybe not that second part as I don’t want to frighten people! I will check this out!
