Legislation being introduced by Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn, may prevent financial institutions from offering credit cards to illegal immigrants. It’s being called the Photo Identification Security Act. Looks like common sense is still alive in government.
The bill would require consumers to provide forms of identification that are secure when applying for such things as credit cards. I reported earlier that Bank of America was claiming they weren’t doing anything illegal citing they were operating within the confines of the U.S. Patriot Act. Please — I’m all for making a buck, but have they no shame in the way they go after it?
It has less to do with providing a service to a virtually untapped segment of the economy, and more to do with eyeing the dollars a bank can make.
Hopefully, if passed, this will prevent Bank of America and its ilk from abusing loopholes for the sake of increasing their revenue.

Why is the GOVERNMENT telling us what to do???
Why does a credit card provider care if someone is legal or illega.
This is totally wrong..once again the government is restricting what we can and can not do.
Nothing is wrong with someone who is illegal in getting a credit card, or a car loan or a home loan.
Only reason we are hearing about this now is that the government is going after credit card industry right now.
Illegals can also get car loans and mortgages…why isnt the government going after that industry???? LOBBYISTS!!!!
Hi Ted,
If I broke into your house and took things that belonged to you, would you just pat me on the back and smile? Nope. You’d call the authorities and demand justice be served.
Not that their credit cards are mine or yours, mind you, but they are taking things they shouldn’t, yet they demand that they are entitled to those things. They’re following the path of least resistance and BoA is giving them one more reason to make it easier for them to stay.
Honestly, I’m not trying to be offensive here, but this is something I’m passionate about.
With illegals the thing is, well…they’re illegal. They’re criminals for crossing the border. They shouldn’t be here in the first place. I’m all for giving them what they should get as long as it’s a one-way ticket home to get at the back of the line like everyone else who wants to enter *legally*.
Nothing wrong with someone who is illegal getting a credit card and such? That doesn’t make any good business sense, nor does it do any good to keep the integrity of the American culture intact.
Let’s not forget that one of the reasons our government exists — any government — is to tell us what we can do and what we can’t. Now, I agree with you that there are times when I don’t agree with their choices. But we’re talking about them enforcing the laws that are already on the books.
I’ve said it before in a previous post: once people embrace the fact that these people are illegal and should be treated like criminals, all other arguments turn to dust.
But we can agree to disagree.
