Colorado Schools Ban Tag?
-
Do you listen to Glenn Beck on the radio? Or perhaps watch his TV show on Headline news? What a great, common sense, down-to-earth guy, he is. I love the way he just tells it like it is.
I recently read a transcript about one of his shows where Colorado schools have banned the game tag.
Are you kidding me? Banning tag?Apparently kids (but we know it’s their parents) are upset at being chased. Glenn makes an excellent point by asking the question, “Why not ban dodge ball?” I mean, people are actually throwing things at you. Wouldn’t that lead to law suits destined to make people rich beyond their wildest dreams?
I don’t know about your area, but I recall a time when in my area teachers were not supposed to grade papers in red because it was “too harsh”. With so many colors in the rainbow to choose from, couldn’t we find a more warm-and-fuzzy color?
So be on the lookout. Kids are having their childhood snatched right from under their noses. What’s next? Hide and seek?

Well, in my opinion that’s just horrible. I used to love tag! I don’t see why schools and parents are being so, well, stupid these days. There’s an excuse for everything on why it’s not good for you, even if it isn’t bad. Tag is far from being dangerous or even unsettling, so what’s wrong with it? These kinds of things go way too far… Really, it’s not fair.

Yeah, people need to toughen up a bit. No one has a right NOT to be offended or get their feelings hurt, or whatever. It’s because of people like this that are trying so hard not to feel anything but happiness, it’s causing us all to suffer in some fashion.
And don’t get me wrong, I like and want to be happy as we all should, but to think that it can be that way everyday is little naive.

Might as well get rid of school playgrounds altogether
Of all the things that can be done to improve the kids’ school experience, banning tag is definitely not on the list.

And other sad thing about it is that they’ll grow up looking for even more ways to take down joy. When’s the cycle going to end?

Thank you for the sanity. I am not always in agreement with Glen Beck but this is one that I do agree on. This issue also played out earlier in Attleboro, MA. and I chose to share my concerns with my own posting at: http://www.openeducation.net/2007/09/04/another-elementary-school-bans-tag/

That’s silly, but dodgeball is okay right? You’d think they would first ban the game where throw a ball as fast as you can so that you hit the other kid.

@Danielle: my point exactly. Pure stupidity.

No one wants their feelings hurt, well we are raising some of the most oblivious kids this generation. Whats happens when they go into the real world and they face some adversity, they are in for it let me tell you…

@Max
