I saw a TV news magazine show last night that explained the world of Doga (pronounced just like yoga, but with a “d”). It’s a combination of yoga and…dogs. Seriously, I’m not making this up. This is April 4, not April 1.

Puh-leez.

As I was watching the people stretch and bend along with their dogs, I couldn’t help but wonder if the dogs felt a tad bit embarrassed. I could swear I saw one dog mouth the words, “Help me.”

Clearly their owners were having the time of their lives doing the “downward facing dog” — with their dog!

This is just another example of how our society has too much money and not enough things to spend it on. Mind you, I don’t want people to be poor, but aren’t there other things that are more productive and meaningful than stretching with your dog? I mean, stretching WITHOUT your dog is more meaningful than stretching with your dog.

Here’s a thought: why don’t we all come up with ideas like this one and we can all cash in on them? What do you say?

Bloga — the act of bending down from a standing position to reach your laptop on the floor to blog.

Kleenex-agami — like origami, only with Kleenexes.

Bring your fish to work day — we need more business-minded fish.

Cat signing — teaching sign language to deaf cats

Synchronized swimming — oh wait, that’s already been thought of. Moving on.

Bird waving — not that they can wave back, but it’s your way of saying you appreciate them even though they haven’t a clue of what you’re doing.

I recently read a transcript about one of his shows where Colorado schools have banned the game tag.

Are you kidding me? Banning tag?

Apparently kids (but we know it’s their parents) are upset at being chased. Glenn makes an excellent point by asking the question, “Why not ban dodge ball?” I mean, people are actually throwing things at you. Wouldn’t that lead to law suits destined to make people rich beyond their wildest dreams?

I don’t know about your area, but I recall a time when in my area teachers were not supposed to grade papers in red because it was “too harsh”. With so many colors in the rainbow to choose from, couldn’t we find a more warm-and-fuzzy color?

So be on the lookout. Kids are having their childhood snatched right from under their noses. What’s next? Hide and seek?

That’s exactly what the TimesOnline has reported today. The 7-year-old child, Flavie, has Turner syndrome, a medical condition where an X chromosome is missing. In most cases, infertility is a result, though getting pregnant with donated eggs is possible.

Her mother, Melanie, out of the kindness of her heart, didn’t want her child to not experience the joy of giving birth to someone. So she decided to bestow upon her 21 frozen eggs of her own for when she grows up. In other words, her half-sister or brother.

Clearly, we’ve made leaps and bounds in the medical industry in ways that are truly amazing. But I think we’ve crossed the line in too many places — this being one of them. Just because we can do something, doesn’t mean that we should.

Perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be that this girl was to grow up and have children of her own. To me, that’s what nature has told her already. For the mother to make this preparation, I don’t know, seems selfish — more for the mom to feel good about doing something rather than for the good of her daughter and eventual grandchild.

I did a quick Google of the case and discovered this has been going on for a few years. In an article dated July of 2003, Hormel officials argued that:

…the company has carefully protected and invested in the brand name and the public could confuse the meat product with the technology company.

The technology company being referenced is SpamArrest, makers of software designed to combat spam — the email variety.

Are you kidding me? When was the last time you tried to eat unsolicited email?

I’m all for defending branding, property and so on, but this sounds to me like Hormel’s lawyers are a little too eager to come up with billable hours.
