Babes In Bikinis On MAMD?

Grab your attention? Well, it did me too when I noticed a few of them showing up in my sidebar!

If you’re a regular reader of MAMD (and if you’re not, why not take this opportunity to become one?), you may have noticed the recent changes I’ve made to my sidebar. Specifically, the “Soft Sell” portion of advertisers, of which AuctionAds was one of them.

Apparently, some advertisers think it’s appropriate to get your attention by using images of girls in bikinis in suggestive poses to get you to click on their ad. Well, I don’t think it’s appropriate, which is why I’ll be replacing it with something else.

If you’re selling bikinis or modeling services, okay, that makes sense, but not when you’re selling software for crying out loud.

I sent an email to AuctionAds recently to inquire if anything could be done. All they said was that eBay has to crack down on those people. I would agree with that and don’t fault AuctionAds.

But sadly, that means that if I want to maintain certain level of quality here, but don’t have control over what shows up on these ads, then it’s “buh-bye bikini babes”.

This reminds me of the trend I used to see on MyBlogLog where members would use [ahem] bouncing avatars to get your attention (”nudge-nudge, say no more” for you Monty Python fans out there ). They must have cracked down on those because I haven’t seen them in a while.

So word to the wise: keep an eye on the things that you’ve put on your blog that could change with dynamic content.
