A Little Touch-Up On The Front Door
Well, there you have it. My new banner, complete with new logo!
Geesh, that was like having a baby. After weeks of hunting for images and inspiration, tweaking here and there, staring at the screen, I finally ended up with something that I thought was decent enough to use. I’m my own worst critic.
I welcome any feedback. Give it to me straight: love it or hate it?
I’m thinking about writing a post about how I created it including what tools I used. So much to write, so little time. ![]()

Mark - I think it’s really awesome. Good thing that you didn’t take 9 months to ‘birth’ your new logo.
It would be very interesting if you did a post or series of posts, explaining the process you went through, what tools you used, etc.
That way you’d have readers coming back often to follow the thread.

If I had never seen your other header, I would love this 100% unconditionally! Having said that, I really do like this banner and am pretty impressed with your work. Plus I love the tagline, “The Beat of a Different Blogger”.
But I dunno, for me there was just something about seeing a person beat a drum.
But still, I really really like it. Fantastic work!

@Bush: wow, thanks for the high praise!
Yeah, I was struggling with choosing between using the guy or not. It was tough, but I’ll see how this one pans out.
@Baron: thank you, sir!

@Morgan: LOL You’re right, it could have been worse by going longer. Glad to see that you like it. I’ll definitely put some thought into writing something about it.

Mark - new logo is great (I’m a sucker for good drop shadow)! Can’t wait to get the lowdown on your design process. I have been tossing around the idea of a site redesign (including logo)…and would be interested in your approach.

I LOVE it! I should of had you design my logo!

@Mike: thanks, buddy. Hopefully it stands out in a good way.
@Christy: you’re very kind. Thanks!
@Kyle: hehe…wow, glad to get that kind of response, too!

@Chris: hehe, yeah I’m partial to drop shadows as well. I was tempted to do Web 2.0 reflection, but decided to go against the grain on that one. I’ll work on that post.
Thanks for the comments!

Dang honey, that’s cool. I’ve always thought that blue and gold looked good together, but you did an outstanding job.
Very nice, honey, Very nice.

@Christine: thank you kindly! You know, it’s funny, but I wasn’t even trying for that until I was cycling through some color variations and that happened to call out to me.

I totally love it Mark. Totally. It’s a very fresh look - very universal. Any Yin Yang influence there? That’s just part of what I see/get from it, which is a cool plus.
Anyway, great job! I recently designed a new header image for my blog, though it’s MUCH simpler than what you ended up with. One of these days I’ll get around to redesigning like I really want to, but for now people will just have to deal.
Shine on,
Aaron

Now that’s what I am hollering!
Very nice work!
Mark | Sep 25, 2007 | Reply
@Aaron: it’s funny you say that because I wasn’t really going for the ying yang look, but it sure does look that way. I was trying to figure out a way to make it more than just a circle, but still have the overall object look like a drum. I was going for a simple swirl.
@Garry: holler away buddy! Thanks!

Hi NAFA: thanks for your kind words and for stopping by!

As an artist, I tend to notice things like that. And the fact that you weren’t working under a Yin Yang influence, makes it even cooler! It shows that you’ve internalized designs that mean a lot to many people. And you totally recreated them into something that we can love and appreciate.
If design were an apple, your new logo could be its core!
Shine on,
Aaron

Thanks buddy! For without inspiration, even the most skillful of writers shall grow forever silent.
So…as long as you continue inspiring, I’ll continue yapping my comment jaw.

I love the new look. Just have to say it’s great work with gold & blue plus I dig the new drum logo. The tagline is definitely catchy!
