A Future Me, A Future Interview

June 23, 2007

My good buddy Brown Baron has come up with a unique tag: the Unknown Blogger Interview. Basically, it’s a response to the question, “How would you respond if you were interviewed by another blog right now while you’re still undiscovered?” It’s a question and answer format, given to and responded by me.

But I’m giving it a twist. I’m pushing this out into the future, when I have been discovered. (Hey, it could happen. ;))

Interviewer: Before you became a popular hotspot on the Web, and gathered quite a following –

MAMD: Oh please, you’re embarrassing me.

Interviewer: Oh, you’re being modest. That’s so cute, you being humble despite your success.

MAMD: [blushes]

Interviewer: So, tell us about the early years. What led you to choose MeAndMyDrum as the name for your blog?

The Little Drummer BoyMAMD: The name holds a special meaning for me — a couple of meanings, in fact. I wanted to portray my blog as something that gets the word out, makes some noise, wakes people up, hence me beating a drum.

But the strongest meaning comes from The Little Drummer Boy, my favorite Christmas song. When I was a kid, I felt sad for that little boy because he had nothing to give, but his time and talent. His gift was from the heart. The song ends, “…then He smiled at me…me and my drum.” That stuck with me. So I thought maybe if I “played my drum”, metaphorically speaking, then I could try to make Jesus smile at me, too.

Interviewer: So what was your occupation when you first started blogging.

MAMD: I was a project manager.

[ringgg-ringgg]

Interviewer: And do you still do that now? [ringgg-ringgg] Uh, do you need to get that?

MAMD: No. I blog — er, excuse me a second — [Hello? Yes, Mr. President. Always good to hear from you. Mmm-hmm...I see...no, I think you should veto that one. You're running the show, not them. Sure thing, big guy. Anytime. Give my love to your wife and kids.]

Future homeI’m sorry about that. He calls me twice a week, at least. So anyway, no, I just blog now. My family and I live quite comfortably from that, although I do find it tiresome walking from one wing of the house to the other, but it’s the only exercise I get, so I shouldn’t complain.

Interviewer: What advice would you offer bloggers just starting out?

MAMD: Be true to yourself. Avoid the temptation of snatching up the latest review opportunity you find to make a few bucks. Find something you love to write about. Write regularly. Don’t talk at your audience, but with them. That, and of course, read my blog — which, by the way, is offering memberships through the end of July at a discounted rate, so act now. Operators are standing by.

Interviewer: So what do you do when you’re not blogging?

MAMD: Well, I’m still in negotiations, so I can’t say much, but I’m working on a guest appearance with the TV show Heroes. They’re thinking it would be a great season opener for their third year run. I’ve always loved that show.

Pinnacle of successInterviewer: How fascinating! I can’t wait to see it. Anything else you’d like to say before we close?

MAMD: Yes. It has been great fun doing something I love. Writing about my discoveries and giving my opinions on this and that. You know, it’s funny, but just the other day, Brown Baron, Mike and myself were golfing (well, we weren’t but we pay people to golf for us — we just enjoy riding around in those carts), –

Interviewer: Wait, you know Brown Baron and Mike?

MAMD: Oh yeah, nice guys. But anyway, as I was saying, we were remembering when we first started out, wondering if we’d ever make it this far. We still have a long way to go, but I like to think we’ve left things just a little bit better than the way we found them.

Very informative. And I like your explanation of your blog’s name too, very very cool! So was everything in your interview pretty much true?

Hehe…thanks, Bush. The name of the blog, my advice on blogging, and me being a project manager. Everything else is my hope for future (except charging to read my blog  ).

Love the part where we pay people to play golf for us hahaha.
Hmm .. you know, I wonder how the three of us will be when we actually “make it”.
Mike will probably have Gummy phones, etc. haha.

I imagine we’ll have to pull him out of the hot tub where he’ll be with his Gummy babes.

Hahaha. It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to pay someone to golf for me. There’s less chance of someone getting hurt that way

Now if you’ll excuse me I must return to the hot tub with the Gummy babes. It’s such a tough life, but someone has to live it

You’re an inspiration to us all, Mike.

    Yes, yes I know

Pssh…like I’d be really be sitting here blogging if I actually had a hot tub full of Gummy babes
