Join The iReply Movement
June 30, 2007
A recent post of mine was meant to encourage blog owners to reply to their visitors who leave comments. I see this as a critical factor in a blog’s success.
That post echoed one Mike wrote last week. Since then, he, Brown Baron and myself had a quick brainstorming session this morning. And thanks to Mike’s graphic skills, he came up with a great looking symbol to promote the concept. So I’m pleased to announce the iReply movement!
I understand that we, as blog owners, can’t always commit to replying to every single comment that is made. As far as problems go, you have to admit that it’s a good problem to have, but that’s not what this movement is about. The overall motivation here is to simply tell your visitors that you have an interactive place and that you encourage discussion.
So if you feel inclined, please feel free to download the image to your server, post it on your blog, and help us spread the word.
Though not a requirement to use the image or even join the movement, but perhaps you might consider linking back to this post when you do.

movement, which was pretty successful (if we only think that Andy Beard’s “No Nofollow | Follow | Do Follow†is one of the most popular communities of BUMPzee!), here comes the time for another blogging movement designed with the reader in mind: iReply. Initiated by Mark from MeAndMyDrum, together with Mike from ThingsByMike and BrownBaron, the iReply movement is the answer to an issue many readers have: why some bloggers don’t react to comments.
[IMG ] My fellow bloggers Mike from Ordinary Folk, Brown Baron from Brown Thoughts, and Mark from Me and My Drum have come up with one seriously good idea! The iReply movement is a way to let your readers know that you will reply to their comments, and readers won’t have to wonder whether their comment will go unnoticed. If you see the iReply badge on someone’s

able to search and find every single comment I made. I like the privacy. Seeing this logo sometimes makes me hesitate to comment instead. I wonder if they realize the reverse effect it has. In addition, I am not too concerned with ratings. [IMG ] MeandMyDrum has a similar concept, but more true to purpose. I have already long ago been following the practice he suggest. I always try to follow back as best I can and return a comment when someone comments here. It just plain ‘ol makes people feel good to get

Viva le revolucion! Or something like that
Woo-hoo!
What if people actually comment on my post? You know I’m shy

Just take a deep breath and start tapping away on the keyboard. It doesn’t necessarily have to be coherent
Sounds like a brilliant idea to me…right up there with the “Do Follow” movement.
And I wasn’t in it? Awww…
Brown Baron- It’s okay. Take a deep breath like Mike said.

Mike- I think it’s vive le révolution.
Ehh…I’m a blogger not a linguist…lol. I was close
But don’t breathe too fast — can’t have you hyperventilating! I’m sure we can find you a support group somewhere if the need arises.
Hi Adam, thanks for the kind words!
Hey everybody: be sure to check out Adam’s blog, I got a kick out of his rotating head.
Thanks for helping these guys out.
And thanks for sticking around!

Deep breathing is different from heavy breathing right? Hey it’s the weekend and I get confused easily
Hi, I’m reading you via the No Nofollow | I Follow | DoFollow Community at Bumpzee, on the RSS feed.
This is a great idea. I’ve put the image in my sidebar, and I’ll give it a try.
Always ready to look for ways to improve..
Looking forward to reading more from you.

Gosh, now that you make it sound so official, it sounds like we need letterhead and business cards.
Mike?
Can’t do it. Today is Sunday. May day off from the internet and all things blogging. Oh wait….forget I was here…
So, what if you don’t reply? Any logo available for that ?:)

I really like the idea about this iReply Movement
Hi Vicente, I appreciate you stopping by and commenting. I hope you’ll decide to help us spread the word, and possibly even upload the logo to your blog.
Can you teach me how?
Sure thing. It’ll be just like the other things you’ve added to your sidebar. Just right-click on the iReply logo and select “Save image as” to save it somewhere on your desktop. Then just upload it like you’ve done for things like your Amazon widget.

Back and forth comments is an excellent way to build up a blog. All those added comments stretch out the article, making them link juice for the search engines including Google.
Hi Matt, thanks for the kind words and your support.
So how do I join this secret society? Is there a secret handshake?
LOL
I’ll have to send you the details via carrier pigeon. It’s really the only safe way, you know.
I think, for bloggers, it’s better to reply at his / her blog. Example i came here comment, then as a reply u comment at my blog. now that means co operate between bloggers. If we reply in our blog, it’s looks like we just think of ourselves
So for bloggers, it’s better reply at commentor’s blog, but for plain visitors, it’s ok to reply at our own blog
Best regards

That’s something I haven’t thought about. Thanks for stopping by!
This is great idea. Thanks! I’m grabbing the logo now!
Hi ladynred! Thanks so much for your support.
m a firm believer that an updated and personalised sidebar is a good thing for your blog! Anyway, back to the new buttons. Let me explain what they mean - maybe they’re just what you’re looking for too![IMG ireply_litebg.gif]
Gotsta love the windy morning, up early and the weather outside is wild and inside you’re coffee and calm perhaps back to bed for some time. [IMG ]A couple notes on the following picture by the ‘creators’ here andhere- a modest movement for sure.
I am in on this with you all!
Hi Carol! I hope you’ve been keeping out of trouble.

re looking through them all once more. This plugin now is supposed to help you keep track of all your comments. I will test it in the next few days and report back at a later date with my opinion of it. 13. The iFollow and theiReplymovements Both are pretty much self-explanatory. iFollow means that I have a plugin that deactivates the no_follow attribute for links in the comments. So, if you leave a comment on my site, it is a proper backlink to your site, one that search

I think the ireply movement was a good idea, but I have commented on numerous blogs that are part of this movement only to find that they are NOT replying.
@Rose: as I posted on Blog About Your Blog, I would like to think that your experiences are few and far between. My experiences have been more positive, so I surmise that you just hit some bloggers while they were swamped with other things. You’ll always get a response here though! Thanks for stopping by!
choose from - makes me wonder just how many themes I could actually fit from my archives without having to shoot anything new. But why writing, you ask? Well, over the weekend, I briefly happened upon a blog which proudly sported the following logo:[IMG ]I clicked it (as you can, if you’d like) to see what it was about. Apparently there’s a large group of people who think that you should reply to your blog comments, and who are starting a movement featuring this logo, to highlight blogs which do. If
